Autronic Eye Bypassed

The autronic eye on my 55 Olds does not work. Someone had rigged the lights to work without it when I bought the car several years ago. Now when the headlight switch is pulled all the way out all headlights and taillights go out and I can hear a slight noise that sounds a little like an electrical arc, but cannot see any such. There is also a noise like a relay kicking in and out. I would like to completely by pass all the eye circuitry and go directly from the headlight and dimmer switches to the headlights and use the lights as if there had never been an eye. However, I have not been able to locate a wiring diagram complete enough to show me which wires to delete and which to tie together to do what I want to do. Any help out there?

I moved your post to its own thread. Someone else maybe can provide the stock headlight wiring diagram.

If you have a factory shop manual it should show the wiring diagram.

Thanks. That looks pretty much like the 55 schematic. Will see what I can do with this.

The noise you hear may be the circuit breaker made in the switch.

On my 54 Chevy Bel Air, I took the lid off the black box and at the very bottom, there is a fuse. I removed it and the lights worked like normal. High beam and low beam. Before you remove it, you could also turn the lights on and see if the vibrator is humming inside the black box with the lid off.
