53 Heater Problem
Guys please take a look at this and tell me if this is supposed to happen...the element turned red hot when I put the heater on.
Personally I crapped a brick when I saw it and shut it down, then pulled the live off the battery thinking there was some kinda short or something and my Olds was going to burn down
It happens when the fan is turned on, slightly red on low, and bright red on high, and also when the defrost **** is pulled out, but only the bottom element glows.

Hi Nigel
I use to have the same thing, but don’t worrythe wires are in a special material and won’t burn…
My fan motor was a little so so and gotreplaced by a new one (Caddy 53), runs much smother and wires won’t be red!
The old fan motor probably used to much currentwhich case a lot of heat in the resistor wires.

Nigel; I don't have the full picture but I believe it acted similar as yours, the bottom one takes the most juice. I had to take the resistor apart and made a new insulator plate and got the wires connected in a good way.
By looking at your second picture, is the rivet in the middle loose or burned? loose connectors can case a lot of heat...
