53 coil springs

Can anyone
tell me what the factory free length of the front coil springs were on a 53 98, mine measure 15 5/8" after many years of use, I would like to take the car down a couple of inches but want to make sure before I take 1" off.

Nigel have you thought of a alternative rather than cutting the springs? Many moons ago I put some 50 or 60 series tires on my Old's, it lowered it enough that I would scrape on speed bumps.I grew Tired of the look and eventually went back to My original rims and tires. Just a thought.... Tedd

Everything I'm doing Tedd is low budget, new tires are a distant dream at the moment, I've bit the Bullet anyway and cut the spring after much watching of YT tutorials....1" at the spring is 2" at the body, as the saying goes.)
Thanks mate.
