49 Olds 88 heater switch removal ???

I am getting ready to paint my dash and have everything removed except for the heater fan switch. I spent 1/2 hour today trying to figure out how the **** comes off so I can remove the bezel and switch, but no luck. Anybody know how it comes apart ?
Thanks in advance.

Here is a picture of the **** I need to remove. Its the one just above the hood release cable, which is the blower motor control.

Looks like the switches on my 53 . They have like a half(thin) nut on the back. back it off and the switch will come out the front.

Thanks for reply. I was able to remove it today. Actually the **** has an inch long shaft that has a slot on the end( almost looks like the inside of a tail light socket) that goes into the actual switch, and after turning the **** a few degress,it pulled out of the switch. Than all that was left was removing the little 4 slot nut that holds the bezel to the dash. Pretty good design for 1949.
