1964 Jetstar 88 fuel tank issues
So I got a 64 jetstar 88, base model, without a tank. While installing a replacement I discovered I know nothing about fuel systems. Can someone help with location of the rear of vehicles gas line locations. Return and in.. please..
Oldsmobile used a length of rubber fuel hose back there. They ran it thru the passenger side frame rail. Goes in an opening on the inside of the frame rail to the REAR of the axle, and comes out of another opening on the outside of the frame rail just ahead of the rear wheel opening. It connects to the steel fuel line there, which runs along the outside of the passenger frame rail behind the rocker panel.
The forward section of the fuel hose is the same way. It runs from the steel line just behind the right front wheel, thru the front frame rail and comes out underhood where it connects to the fuel pump suction line.
My experience is a car without airconditioning is easier to fish the rubber hose thru the frame rails since there's only one hose. A/C cars have a return line meaning you have to fight TWO hoses.
You have to remember the body wasn't on the frame when the factory installed the rubber fuel hoses. Job is easier if you have access to a lift. I've done this job on a factory air Starfire laying on my back in the driveway. Not fun.
