1956 4gc Carb linkage

If anyone has a 4GC Rochester from a 324 laying around I could use a close up pic on the drivers side showing the choke and throttle linkage. The carb was supposedly rebuilt when I bought the car but it has never worked right. I think I am missing a spring or a part somewhere. The choke rod from the choke plate seems like it should be returned by a spring? Can anyone help with a good close up? I am guessing the manual may show it but I haven't had time to get one yet.

Here's some pictures of a carb on a 1955 324. I don't know if you can see it well enough to help. I've still got the carb somewhere... I can look this weekend if nobody else comes up with what you need.

I need a close up of the drivers side looking right at the linkage as level as possible. My choke rod and getting the secondaries to open is the prob.

Hey John:

I noticed that 55 has power steering on it. I know a local guy that would buy the setup. I sold him the crankshaft and water pump pulley (2 groove) I took off my 54 when I put the 4 groove on for the AC. You would have to build a crate for the steering sector since the shaft comes out and goes all the way to the steering wheel. You can send me a PM if you prefer. I assure you the price will be worth you time.

Post From the 1956 Oldsmobile shop manual

Pages 8-47 through 8-63 of the 1956 Oldsmobile shop manual will help you to make a good rebuild of the 4GC.

Thanks and I am in the process of ordering a manual. It seems like almost a necessity to help with this Olds.

If you don't get your Carburetor linkage problem handled I can still Look up that extra carburetor and take pictures of it from any angle you need. Larry

Well, I stumbled across this looking for something else! I'm pretty sure this is the one I pulled from the 1955 parts car, but I'm including a shot at the tag for you to compare to yours. Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like a closeup of. John

Before you trust your carb as rebuilt, look at the lead plugs in the front of the carb body. down by the idle adjustment screws. If they look like they were installed at the factory, your enrichment jets will probably be clogged. You need to CAREFULLY remove the lead. It can be done with a very small screw driver, about 1/16" in diameter. Gently drive the small screw driver into the lead about 1/8" and wiggle it around enough to loosen the lead plugs. Looking inside the two holes will be two smaller jet holes. You need to MAKE SURE those small holes are open. The jet holes will be ABOUT .030". You want a piece of wire smaller than that to stick into the jet holes and make sure they are CLEAN without making them BIGGER. Afterwards, plug the holes with some small fishing weights, and put some epoxy over the lead to make sure it doesn't come out. I have had those jets so plugged up, you can not get the open with an 175# air nozzle. This is why you have to remove the plugs to check them visually. If that isn't done, the carb IS NOT rebuilt.
