Exclamation 1956 2DHT Power window issue

Hi can anyone answer this.

i am looking to convert my 1956 88 2DHT from manual to power windows.
I have found a parts 98 4DHT that has the power window mechanisms, but are the rear windows mechanisms on the 2DHT the same as those on the rear of a 4DHT, i always thought not due to the way the 2D rears go down, they rock back then drop.

I am assuming that the window mechanisms in the manuals are totally different from the power windows, and that everything needs replacing.

Thanks

If it were me, I would try to get the mechanicals from a parts car with power windows. Everything else is available new.

Parts car

Hi yes I have been trying to find a 2DHT parts car, so far no luck. I have also been trying to find other makes Buick, Caddy, from the same period, I'm pretty sure they will be the same. Its a shame as those 2D mechanisms are unique because of the way they fold down, or 4D would do. The problem also these days is 2DHT parts cats are rare, cars that were once parts car level are now being offered as restoration projects for large sums, supply and demand I guess.

Thanks

If Hollander is accurate, for the front you should be looking for:
Buick '54 Special & Century 2 Dr. H.T., & Special conv.
Buick '55-56 Special & Century conv., & 2 Dr. H.T.
Olds '54-56 Conv. & Holiday coupe
The 4 Dr. & 2 Dr. cars are shown as being different.

and for the rear:
Hollander only shows entries for the 4 Dr. cars. I don't know exactly what that means, but the 2 Dr. electric is shown in the 1956 Olds shop manual.

Pearsons Auto Wrecking in Ridgecrest, CA is supposed to have a 1956 Olds 98 2 Dr. H.T., but he doesn't say whether they are manual or electric.
I couldn't tell what part of the world you are in.
Send him an e-mail or call before you go there. (Maybe he'll ship. ????)

The only two door 56's I have seen with power windows were front door only cars. Has anyone seen a power rear window car?... Tedd

Hi Tedd, yes they are there, but it seems only on the 98. There is video footage of a really nice Red and Black 98 2DHT for sale on youtube and it shows both front and back. The problem is that rear mechanism is very rare as it is unique to 2DHT and convertible, and there in lies the problem, nobody wants to part out convertibles or 2DHT anymore.
