1954 Trailer Hitch??

Hi Guys,
I need to haul a trailer, with my 1954 Oldsmobile 98.
Has anybody installed a hitch? Rear Frame is around 45 1/2" wide and thats the problem.
I installed some hitches on old Chevys, used the hitch from a Volvo. But the rear frame on this cars a just 43 1/3" wide, so the Volvo hitch will not fit on the Old's

Thanks,
Monaco

I am pretty sure you will need to fabricate a hitch as there are none you can buy. You could also modify a pre-made hitch for it. Pick up something used from craigslist and modify it. Years ago I wanted a hitch for a 66 Delta conv. No catalog listed one for sale so I went to a local hitch place and they made one from scratch for my weight needs. It looked great. Prob try a welding shop...

It's very doable, I cut one off my 55 during the restoration . It looked as though it was homemade but was very functional and looked OK , just not the look I was looking for in my car....Lost in the fifties... Tedd

Ford pickups have frame rails spaced in the 45-46" range. You can probably modify a hitch for one of those. In any case, this will be a custom-welded hitch.
