1954 Power Steering pump interchange question

Can anyone tell me if the power steering pump and brackets interchange between a 1954 and 1956? I've got one from a 1954 324 and another member here is looking for one to put on his 1956 324.

I think they will but hopefully Ozzie or Charlie would confirm this with a look at their Hollander. I can't think of any différance in bracketry that would cause it to not work....Tedd

As I remember, there were design improvements from 54 to 56, which resulted in part number changes. but I agree that the "bracketry" should work.

Here's what I removed from the 1954 engine. Do you think the pump/pulley will work for the 1956 or just the bracket?

I feel pretty sure that will fit but he will still need a double groove harmonic balancer.

The Hollander says that 54 & 55 are the same , But '56 is a different number .

Do you know if the bracket is part of the "pump" part number? Just wondering if it's possible that the bracket wouldn't fit but the pump would work.

I'm not overly worried about the bracket not fitting(it would be great if it did), I have access to a laser cutting machine and a full sheet metal fab house so I could have something made if needed.

The Hollander only lists the pump itself .
The Hollander usually mirrors the info you will find in the Olds parts book . That's because that's where they got their main source of info .
But they also got feedback from auto wreckers as to tips on what else might work with minor or even no modification .

I also checked the Olds parts book and found the bracket fits all 54 thru 56 .
So theoretically the 54 unit will bolt on the engine .
The only other variables would be how the pulley lines up and will the hoses fit ?
The parts book also reveals that the pulley was the same 54 thru 56 .

I think the fit and the hoses won't be a problem. I could have a new steel bracket made, and the lines also could have made. Fusick has the lines for like 90$ which I guess I would try, but if that goes south hydraulic lines could be made without issue.

Thank you for all the research, I really appreciate it!

I just meant if the pulley does not line up correctly for some reason.

I can't think of what that reason would be, all the external stuff is the same, the engine for all that matters is the same except cam heads and compression(pistons) oh ya and the turkey tray, but the rest is the same....Tedd
