1954 98 turn signals

Attachment 98740I just acquired a 1954 98. The first thing we noticed about the car compared to other photos of these cars is that there are no signal lights below the headlights.

The car seems original for the most part. We were wondering if they had been filled in for some reason, if front turn signals were a delete option or if the fenders were perhaps a different year?

Thoughts?

No, the fenders are '54 only, and I don't think signals were a delete item. Can you see anything from behind the fender? I'd say they were filled in as a custom job.

This is the only one I've seen without them mounted just under the headlights similar to the ones on "55's. Larry

Ok. Thanks guys. I'm going to check behind the fenders and I'll let you know what I find. I did get the car with a Tazmanian Devil "Taz" on the rear window so anything is possible on this one!

Pat I'm not seeing what you are talking about and I can't get your picture to enlarge for some reason. I think what you see is the reflection off the headlight chrome or I'm missing something?...Tedd

That's pretty strange. I've seen people put lights in the part of the grill that sticks out but that's not factory.

I think the front fenders have been altered, because the fenders directly below the headlights on yours look completely flat, and you can see the albums that are available on "redmanolds " profiles that the fenders were shaped outward for the parking lights / turn signals to fit .The '55 fenders were done the same way. This is weird. The car is a 4 door 98 sedan and there are no other modifications I can see. Why in the world would somebody delete the parking lights/turn signals. Does it have the turn signal lever on the steering column and do the turn signals work on the rear. What about the parking lights. Very strange.

I agree. It is strange. There are no other mods I can make out on the car except some painting under the hood. I won't be able to have another look at it for about a week. I'll include some other pics I have of the car. Let me know if you see anything else that looks weird.

Seems they replaced the reverse lights with red lenses

I believe that is an export model. Sorry, I just made that up. It would take some metal work for the area where the parking light/turn signals are supposed to be to be that flat. Look up under the front fender under the headlight and see if there is any evidence of metal work.

Ok. Back in town and checked it out. The housing and harness are behind the fender. So for some strange reason, someone deleted them. The last owner told me the car came from a res....maybe you don't need to signal there.
