Having an aftermarket glass hood thats lighter than a factory glass hood, i couldn’t find spring that would wouldn’t rip it in half. So I had to cobble up something from scratch.
Went to a salvage yard to find some gas pistons from late model cars.
Went from small to heavy and tall.
$25 for all i could carry. Out of the 8 pairs, the ones from the suburban worked.

Are you using the factory springs on the fire wall? I am curious because I am building a 39 seventy series and I would like to remove the factory springs and hardware from the fire wall to clean it up. All the 39's I have looked at where they have removed the springs the guys us a prop in the front of the hood to hold it up.The car I am working on the front clip was missing when I bought it, but the parts car I purchased the factory hinges held the hood up with no problems so maybe your springs are a little weak.

It looks like your grille may be broken I may have a good left half or a piece from a broken grille that could be put in by a good tig welder.

The grilles are at my winter home in AZ, I will be there after the first of the year and look through the grilles and let you know. Last winter I purchased a 40 year collection of 39 Olds parts from an estate to get parts for my car because parts for the those cars are all but impossible to find now.
