Roto-hydramatic wont downshift cold

I rebuild my Slim Jim trans after a bearingfailure. New oilpump, bearings, oil-rings gaskets etc. It works fine besides sometimes (most often Cold), it wont go out of gear och will stall the engine. This only happens when it has shifted up to third gear and then comes to a stop. If I manualy shift down to "L" is fine and doesnt stall..
Any ideas?
Sorry for my spelling in English..

What year is the trans?. I have all the books and quite a bit of experience.
Did you take the valve body completely apart, for cleaning?

Car is a 1964 but I think the trans is a 1962..
I did not take the valvebody apart, just removed the pistons och cleaned it and blowed it out with compressed air. Do you think the problem is in the valvebody?
It also upshifts a bit early, on low rpms.. Tried to adjust with the t.v rod but not realy any sucsess..

Henke996, sorry for the dealay in the response. Feel free to call me c:863-257-0363. lunchtime is best.
As for the Slim Jim, quite possible one of the spool valves is hung up. these are noramlly fairly bulletproof, after a complete and thorough rebuild. All the TV adjustments are very critical. If you do not have a factory service manual, I would be happy to copy some pages and mail them to you.

I have the manual and did the adjustments on the t.v rod, but maybe didnt do it perfectly.. Ill do it again more accurate.
One thing more that Iwe noticed, when in D-range it skips 3rd gear, goes 2nd to 4th.. If driven in S-range, 3rd gear works fine.
Is this one more reason to take apart the valvebody you think?

The Slim Jim has only three true speeds. You won't be getting a forth because there isn't one. Early in the production years they (Old's) advertised the Slim Jim as a four speed and this caused a lot of confusion, later they retracted this in their publications....Tedd

PS here is a link from AACA that might help you on the adjustments ...Good luck http://forums.aaca.org/topic/54478-s...justment-help/

When I shift manualy from D to S it downshifts. And its not the huge change in ratio that occurs when it shifts from second to third. (Or first to second if its a Three-speed)
Three or four-speed, I still miss one gear when driven in D..
Thanks for the link, Iwe made the tool earlier and set up the TV crank on the trans. But maybe I need to redo the adjustments up by the carb and link..

from what I understand the TV linkage settings are very critical to the correct operation of the transmission.
