Looking for feedback on a 4 or 5 speed conversion I'm doing on my 394. Just had a few questions about how it performs with an aluminum flywheel, was there any balancing problems? etc etc. I'm running a warmed up balanced 394 ,aluminum flywheel, 11 Centerforce clutch, 4 speed M 21 Muncie, 3:08Posi in a 4000 lb car. Ross Automotive of Niles, Ohio has done this change over. I remember a 1959 88 convertible in the Olds Club magazine. He is an "Olds Guru" known for the pre 1965 Olds V8's. He sells aluminum heads for 394s also. Ken

 

This '64 Jetstar 1 4-spd conversion was on Ebay in 2009. From the ad:
1964 Jetstar 1, front and rear suspension completely rebuilt, sandblasted and painted, was originally a 3spd on the column car and was converted to a 4spd
on the floor. 394 V8. runs and drives great, all new brakes good tires, glass, body, paint etc. nice old car. interior is original and will need some attention to be
perfect but presentable as is, rear seat has plenty of room for loose women, the paint was done by an amature and not perfect. no mud in car, all steel. good
floors frame etc. everything works great, heater wipers etc. Back bumper is showing some crust, The original trans and console are inlcluded in auction in
case you want to put it back to original status.

I know no other details about the conversion.

 

Ah, remember that one well...was sorely tempted. Was going for around 9 or 10K as I recall.
