Transmission match.
If I haven't answered this somewhere else on this forum here it goes again.
#1 there are no direct bolt up matches from a first generation Olds motor to a 350 or 400 trans, all will require an adapter( Ross Racing is probably your best place to get one) not cheep but good.
#2 should you go this route I would just use a TH350 because it is a little lighter and plenty strong enough behind a 371, both should fit under the transmission hump because they are both smaller than a stock hydro.
#3 keep in mind that you will have to change (or manufacture) the transmission mounts and all the linkage and drive line.
#4 you could have two stock hydros professionally rebuilt cheaper than all the above...Tedd

So do I! I had a 400 rebuilt in 2000, and there was ONE person in that shop who was familiar with them. It struck me then that they hadn't been produced since 1986 and were on their way to becoming the Hydro and SlimJim of their time.
