Toronado Transmission Question

I was wondering how the Toronado transaxle differs from the TH transmissions? I read on 442.com that the TH 425 (or Toro transaxle) is essentially the same internally as the TH 400. Is this true? Just wondering!

Toro transmissions

If you have a Chassis Service Manual check out the photos/diagram of the Toronado transmission. The outside is very different, but I've heard that they were stout transmissions. The 1967 425 engine was rated at 385 hp and somewhere close to 500 ft lbs. torque. In 1970 the Toro GT 455 was rated at 400 hp and I think 510 ft lbs. torque. Although the GT transmission had something extra, I believe some additional clutch discs in it. Also they had the switch pitch option in some, I had a 1967 with that. The best I can remember you flip a switch on the dash to change the rpm of the shift points. Oklahoma is a log way from Medford Oregon, but I've got the 1966 and 67 Toro's I'm dismantling plus a 1970 GT transaxle. If you wind up needing something keep me in mind. John

The TH425 clutches, drums, and gear sets are all the same as TH400 parts.

Thanks guys, that is what I wanted to know. I was mostly just curious. I recently bought a book on TH 400s and it doesn't talk much about the TH 425 or the TH 475.
