350 tranny bracket problems

Last night when I was getting ready to put the car up i put it into reverse to back in the garage and it wouldn't go. (When I put the car in reverse it still went forward). I put the car in neutral and pushed it in.
This morning I went to examine what was going on and the shifter bracket on the transmission seems to be out of wack.(It's a column shift car).
The car starts in the drive position now and when i move the column shifter to change gears it doesn't even click. It just goes straight up and down.
Is there something wrong internally with a shifting mechanism or something???

look at the rod where it connects to the column, (in the engine bay on the column by the firewall) the rod attaches to the column with a slip joint locked down with a bolt. if the bolt is loose the rod will stay in place and the column shifter will slide up and down on it so the trans will not shift.

I checked it and it appeared to be fine. I'll triple check it. Would that cause the lever on the transmission to not engage though? LIke I mentioned it seems like its out of wack and when I turn the trans mechanism by hand I only get 2 clicks and it spins freely.

well figured we would try the easy part to check first. if that is good and the shift shaft going into the trans is turning free and not clicking then you need to drop the pan and see what broke.

Awwww mannnn!!!
I figured it would come down to this. I'll take care of it today.
If I cant figure it out I have no problem swapping out the tranny to get driving again.

I've taken photos of the transmission with the pan dropped and may have found the problem. There is a nut behind a metal piece that ratchets when the mechanism goes into gear and that nut has come loose. Also a "S" looking piece has came out of what looks to be the module. I put everything back in the proper places and it everything works again. I still have to tighten the nut a little more and put the pan on.
