Tranny problems
I guess I am thinking the worst as far as the tranny goes in my 69 Olds 98 with the 455. It started out as slipping when shifting from 2nd to drive under hard acceleration. It was like it went into neutral but if I let up on the gas it would go into drive. I decided to take it easy with it as far as acceleration goes but very shortly it decided that it was not going to go into drive at all. Just seems to slip. You guys figure that it needs major tranny work?
Wolfman, glad to see your post as I've not seen any for a while! But it doesn't sound like good news.
Make sure it's not low on fluid, and try smelling the fluid on the dip stick. If it smells burned that goes with the idea things are slipping inside and it maybe time for a rebuild. John

Fluid level is perfect and clean. Took off modulator and checked. It did not seem to be leaking what so ever and the line is clear. I can't afford a rebuild right now so I guess it will sit for a while.
Just for kicks, pull the round cover off the passenger side of the trans, pull the governor out, and see if the springs are still there - not a big job.
If broken or missing, get a kit from B+M - they can be 'fine tuned' to shift at a specific RPM!
Might get you 'on the road again'!
