66 factory Competition Plus Shifter

I have a 1966 4 speed L69 442. I would like to rechrome the Hurst "442" shifter handle. This necessitates my removing the handle from the linkage. What is the quickest way to remove the handle from the linkage mechanism? Thanks for your assistance.

i use a 15 thousandths flat feeler gauge on the left side of the handle between the handle and gate assembly. just push down feeler gauge to release the tab and pull shifter handle straight upwards.

442 shifter handle

Thank you, I recall the feeler gauge but not the thickness. I appreciate the tip and will do so. Thanks again.
