Hurst Competition Plus Shifter

The Hurst Competition Plus Shifters they make these days... are there any direct replacements for a 1972 Cutlass... or do you have to find an original one? ie. like these ones below?

Oldsy,

Try Hurst-Shifters He's a seller on Evilbay.

I'm having trouble getting a Hurst 538-8009 shifter stick for my 72, he sells them but doesn't ship outside the U.S.

thx.

You should get a US mail forwarding address like me. Fortunately, mine is only like a 1/2 hr drive from here in Niagara Falls, so I can just drive over to pick up if wanted.

I'm not sure what the price is from Hurst-Shifters but Summit & Jegs who to the best of my knowledge ship worldwide have that shifter stick in stock for a mere $73 US.
Extreme Motorsports 197 Toombul Road, Northgate, Queensland, Australia 4013
(with some simple math) should sell the stick for about $122AU.

Extreme Motorsports, I went there once as I was working on the Northside for 2yrs. Wanted some Olds valve covers the GMPP ones, they didn't know what an Olds motor was but did do a great job of trying to convince me to buy a Chevy motor and some Extremely expencive dress up part for it.

If it's not Ford/Chev or a very comon item it's gona hurt the pocket.
What they should sell for and do sell for over here is un believable, Just priced 15"X10" Classic Minilites(sit down)$995AUD each and there in Sydney already.

Oldzy, I'm worried as it is that in 2012 when the missus and I come to the U.S via Canada I might run away and send her home alone, I'm sure it's cheaper sending the cars back to the U.S.

The shifter in the 1st ebay ad is wrong. It has no offset at all.I am guessing that is from a 69 or earlier.
The shifter in ad #2 is correct for a console application, but some of that linkage does not look right. My guess is that linkage belongs with the 1st shifter.

If you "just want a shifter",there are other ways of making them work,or making them fit inside a 70-72 console.Other makes & years had some bases with different ofsets in them,to center a shifter, and some of those can be used with a straight stick, and still have it in the correct location. There are also a few aftermarket Hurst shifters that have enough offset on them to do it.I have a 71 442 with a Richmond 5-spd,and the shifter with that has enough offset to get it up throught the console. The slight problem with the Richmond 5-spd is the whole shifter assembly itself is placed further back on the trans,so the boot assembly on the factory console needs to be modified & hand-fit further back on the console, about an inch.I have done a bunch of different things like this,so I have a great understanding of what needs to be done with whatever parts you have.
