Hey guys,

Got a 67 442, 400 motor with the TH400 tranny, shifter on the floor, all stock with no modifications.

During my resto, the shifter cable broke. I originally saw one on the internet and guess I figured that it would just work, so I bought it. Turns out it was about 3 inches short.

So, did a little futher research and saw that there is also another one available, so I got that one, and it is about 2-3inches to long. I am unable to find the cable that I need that is the correct length. The old cable measures 30 1/2" long from end to end, and just about 18" from clip to clip in the middle part of the cable. I have not seen one with these measurements available.

Anyone got any idea where I can find the correct cable, or if I can have the original one fixed. The rubber casing that covers the cable is machine pressed on at both clips, one end of the rubber came out so now it just moves freely. Can this be pushed back in and repressed? Would this be easier than trying to find the correct cable?

Ken, if you can't come up with the correct length can you use the one that's too long and just give it a large U shape under the floorboard? I'm thinking if it's attached to the transmission and to the shifter that will keep the ends where they belong. Then is there enough flex in the assembly to run it off to the side without it hanging up on anything? Just an idea. John

Thanks, but tried that. The one that is to long, is to long on the outside ends of the brackets, so when I mount it in, the rod that attached to the shifter is actually in the "Drive" area when it should be in the "Park" area, and that is when the other end is mounted and the tranny is in park.

Did that make sense?? Hope so.
