70 cutlass Supreme hard shift to 2nd gear th350
That may just be the way it shifts. Has a shift kit been installed? Can you give more details about the characteristics of the shift? Like: does it happen instantaneously and crisply or does it take a second and give you a feeling like it's in two gears at once followed by a mushy engagement of 2nd?
First off I have only had the car for 2 weeks, I bought it from out of state from a dealer, I don't know about a shift kit, the dealer gave me the receipts from when the transmission was rebuilt in 2018, the shift is abrupt and a jolt when it kicks in, the rebuild consisted of 3:42 gear set, u- joint kit, posi assy, new slip yoke, rebuilt rear diff, then in 2019 a 700 remanufactured transmission and converter installed, new drive shaft.
So I guess its not the TH350 transmission that I thought it was. I am new to this so I dont know alot about all the specs. the original 2 barrel carb was replaced with a holley 4 barrel, new intake manifold.

Does this happen at light throttle, medium throttle, or full throttle? My car with a TH350 and shift kit will shift smoothly at light throttle but will bark the tires on a WOT 1-2 shift, which is completely expected with a shift kit. FYI, a quick (but not brutal) shift is more efficient and extends the life of the clutches than as smooth "I didn't notice the gear change" kind of shift.
On the 700, the TV cable adjustment is critical to proper trans function and life. If you are not familiar with adjusting this trans, find a local mechanic who is, and have them set it up correctly before it burns itself up.
