from Jetaway to TH400

so my cutlass has a column shift and the Jetway I have in the car is giving me some problems. I was thinking of buying a TCI streetfighter TH400 for my car. Would that be a easy install or would i have to change my column snifter to a floor shift?

A T350 would be a better choice it is a direct bolt in with the only mod being the addition of a downshift cable. A T400 will require a drive shaft change, intermediate parking brake cable change or mod, and trans xmember to be relocated rearward. The shift indicator obviously will be off a little but will work with either.

I think if the intermediate PB cable is changed, the forward cable (from pedal to the intermediate cable) also needs to be changed too. At least I had to when I swapped in a 200-4R in place of my Jetaway (which also requires the same cross-member re-location as the TH400). I suppose that there might be a way to extend the threaded end of the forward cable using all-thread and a coupler to reach the new shorter intermediate cable.

BTW, I was able to retain my column shifter using a Kugel Components kit that replaced the factory linkage from the column to the trans. However, if the TH350/TH400 shift lever on the trans swings the same angle from P to L1 as the Jetaway, you should be able to get by with the factory linkage. The trick is to align the P and N positions so that they are the same as originally so that the neutral lock-out switch on the column still works correctly.

^^^This. Unless you are planning a major engine upgrade, the TH350 is nearly a bolt-in. You didn't specify the year and model, but I ASSUME from your screen name that this is a 1969 Cutlass? If so, the firewall already has the punched hole for the kickdown cable. You will need to swap out the accelerator pedal for one with the correct tab to mate with this cable. If you really care about the column shfter, you can also swap the steering column and speedo for ones from a car with a three speed trans. That's about the only thing that needs to change to use the TH350.
