replacing '65 F85 Sedan Jetaway w/ TH400 (long shaft) bolt in? pinion angle effected

hi all. just bought a '65 F85 Town Sedan. the car came stock w/ a switch pitch Jetaway transmission. i have a good working TH400 (long shaft) pulled from a running '71 Delta. would this pretty much be a bolt in swap? or will the driveshaft need to be cut? what about pinion angle? w/ the longer TH400 trans will that be effected at all... atleast enough to be concerned? does anyone know what the "stock" pinion angle is supposed to be?

Tommy

Welcome Tommy, post some pics of your ride.

The short tail shaft T400 is the preferred trans for the swap. Yes, drive shaft needs to modified. The trans cross member needs to be moved back about 6" and since there are no mounting holes in 65, some would need to be added. You will also need another torque converter. You can use your current kick down switch for passing gear. The mod does not effect pinion angle enough to be concerned. You will also need to mod your ebrake cable if it hooks to the trans cross member.

If you have the converter from the 400 it will bolt to the 65 flexplate. I removed a similar trans and driveshaft from a 72 Cutlass and the driveshaft was marked camaro... You will need a shorter driveshaft.

I am doing the same swap I believe that the 67 cutlass with the th400 for the E brake cables work great

You will need to shortin drive shaft and as stated above you will need to move back the trans cross member

Because you move the trans cross member back it changes the distance of the e brake mounting point from what I have gathered is you use the 67 e brake cables so the mount correctly

I shortened the hook on mine and readjusted the slack in the cable. Others just replace the intermediate cable with a 1967 cable for a T400 trans.
