Not true, Never heard of that . In 69 they started to put a single letter at the end of the date code(PXXXX) to signify the ratio. A= M20, B= M21 C= M22

My CSM is for a 69 year model Cutlass/442/Toro and it says the letters are an inch tall. Whatever, is there any way to externally tell if a Muncie prior to 69 is M20 or M22? Thanks.

The number of Rings On the Input shaft is the only other way prior to 69
63-65 No rings = M20
66-74 Two rings = M20
63-74 One ring =M21
67-74 No rings =M22
