leaking transmission

Have a 68 cutlass with a 3 speed ford transmission that I have been unable to stop leaking at the back end. Went with suggested seals from auto parts but after 2successive installations still have a major leak. Any suggestions?

If your yoke has a groove in it, no amount of new seals will work. It will leak also if it is overfilled.

Thanks Eric,
You confirm concerns that I had. I will double check the amount of fluid and do a close inspection on the yoke. How likely is it that there it would leak between the seal OD and the Housing ID? We didn't put any RTV on the seal OD before installing it. Dumb question but thought I'd get your thoughts.
Thanks

Slim, as you install the rear seal it crushes a small amount and wedges in there. If the seal got damaged upon install that's a possibility.

Those seals can sometimes be a bitch. If you install the seal while the transmission is in the car you have to pound on it with a hammer. After it's in you have to look real closely and make sure you didn't knock out the little spring, which it usually does. Take a little pick and spin the spring back in,and I always put a little silicone on it before it goes in to help lube it on the way in and seal it when its in. Like mentioned above check for a groove in your yoke.

Did the 68 Olds have rear 2 turn signals that blinked in succession? ON one side the 2 lights blink together, on the other the blink on interval.
