Tranny problem

New car 67 Cutlass with tranny problems. I am taking it in tomorrow to have it checked out ...hope I don't have serious issues. Best I can tell it has a Jetaway 300. Upon driving it today, I noticed two things. #1. It won't hold itself from rolling backwards when in drive, on an incline. #2 Today it won't drop down into a "passing gear" when I stomp on it. It would yesterday. Very strange. Tranny fluid looks good with no leaks. Any guesses.

Switch pitch solenoid went bad, and is staying engaged, or the opposite, won't engage.
After they tell you they can't fix it [too old!] we'll tell you what to do!
Junkaways aren't worth fixing, IMO!

The other issue may be as simple as the actutor switch going bad. You need to find a privately owned trans shop thats experienced in old cars!!

As stated above, most will respond with bring it in we'll take a look at it. Then after a day or so, you will leave there with the trans still not working and paying for that service!

I think you may be right...I will know tomorrow. I found a great tranny shop. The owner cut his teeth on these transmissions and was very knowledgable. Kaz's Transmissions (IN Grand Rapids, MI) I will post again tomorrow after I find out for sure what issues the car has but he's leaning towards the solenoid. I am very confident he will fix it right... we'll see.

GREAT NEWS all the way around. Turns out the problem was electrical and I also found out this car has the the ID stamped on the cylinder head W 44370 L ...Not sure what that means..high or low compression? It felt more like the 250 HP to me... but not anymore.

This tranny guy was great....he knew the engine very well and even did a tune up on it. He said it was running rough even though it seemed OK to me. Show what I (don't) know. Holy cow, what a difference. This thing runs like a watch now and flies!! He was still tweaking it a little bit but I can pick it up tonight. Can't wait!!

Now that the problem is solved I'll throw my joke about your thread title in:

If you've got tranny problems you might consider a huge TEA PARTY sign in your front lawn or moving out of downtown all together. Of course, some of them can be very convincing...so the latter might save you the agony of finding out AFTER you've taken "her" home
