1969 442 Transmission Removal

Hi,
I've looked over some forums, and I understand I need to lift the car higher than a jack would go.
Any idea just how high to get the car?
Is it better to remove the engine and transmission together? VS dropping under the car and sliding out?

The car just has to be high enough supported on jack stands for the transmission and whatever is being used to move it out from under the car to clear. I would just pull the trans.

If you plan to pull the engine anyway, yeah you can pull them together, but there is no need to do that if you aren't planning to. I've built a set of cribbing from 4x4s that I put under the tires to get the car high enough for easy trans removal.

This is 8 2x12 boards screwed together. I have found these to be VERY useful., far beyond transmission removal.

I mounted my 70 Cutlass on my 24" stands all the way up under the front control arms, back was a little lower. It was just high enough with the trans plate adapter on my floor jack with a 4L80E. It just barely slipped by the headers on the jack. Good luck.
