A body Intermediate Shaft and Coupling repair

I am trying to replace the torn seal on Intermediate Shaft. IAW Service Manual , step 1 remove retaining clip. Step 2 says slide housing off shaft. Mine seems to jam at this point. It won’t just slide off. Looks like it Jams on the two square bearings. There is another clamp ? that looks like it may have held the seal in place …. Thought I would ask the experts before I used to much pull torque and bent something.
thanks.
Mike

Remove the clip that holds the bell like housing, slide the bell cover off, and remove the blocks. Remove the old seal remnants and clip. Then slide the new seal on and reassemble.

Is this the retaining ring.? I have it off and the housing does not slip off, also it appears the seal has a hose clamp type device on it .. that is not in the manual as part of the stack up

Clamp on old seal end?

It looks like part of the boot is still in the housing. The metal ring that is keeping the square sliders from coming out was once part of the rubber boot. Pry the ring out of the bell housing and the shaft will come apart.

Thanks for the technique.. The manual does not show the beveled washer that stacks in housing. That is what was preventing it to just slip out. Now on to the next question. How to get the rubber seal over the rods that hold the bearings. Lube with grease and just “ stretch “ it over the rods into place ? Or is there a better method. Thanks
Mike

How to get this seal on the other side of the rods?

Stretch it over the dowel 1 side at a time.
