Shift Lever

Hi All;
I have the engine and tranny out of my 1969 442. I plan to re-install the same way I took the engine out [both engine and tranny going back in as one piece].
I need to get the shifter out of the way for installation.

Question is...can I remove the shift lever off the tranny without removing all the linkage? I had the tranny rebuilt and adjusted, so I'd prefer not to have to take it all apart to get it back in the car.

The shifter stick will come out, slide a feeler gauge down the side where it goes into the shifter itself, to release it.
