Hi guys,

1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85. I have the Roto 5 transmission in the car. We just got the car tuned and running right. Now it is spewing trans fluid from the vent. We had re-routed the vent and plugged it, so the trans fluid started coming up out of the dipstick.

Besides the Roto-5 being a turd, any idea whats going on here?

If the level is correct I would bet the governor went bad. Can't be sure of this? The original is aluminum and the replacement is cast iron. You likely need a rebuild either way. If you rebuild it and the governor is not bad you need to replace it with a cast iron one anyway if you can find one. I do have an extra one that is NOS if you find you need one.

 

these transmissions had a "rubber ball" on the dipstick to keep the oil from spewing out. Check and see if the ball is there.
