Please help. Where is the tranny dipstick

Hey all,

so I inherited my dad’s supreme (RIP Buddy), and I cannot find the transmission dipstick. I’ve even worked on this car in my youth, but I guess my mind is failing me in my 40s. I can only see the oil dipstick. I have no idea what’s going on with my brain here.

I’m lost!

Behind the air cleaner on the right (passenger) side near the firewall.

By chance do you have 3 foot pedals under the dash?

As has been stated, unless the car has a manual transmission, it should be behind the air cleaner on the passenger side. You took a photo of the left side of the engine compartment. You should have taken one of the right side.

The arrow shows where it should be.

I thought I added the pic from the right side as well.

it’s an automatic and I must be blind. I am not seeing it.

Look forward of the firewall but rearward of the engine in this area.

You're right. It isn't obvious, but it has to be there. Take a photo looking straight down from the top at the very rear of the engine. Basically aim the camera in the direction of the yellow arrow I showed above. Perhaps the top of the tube isn't as high as we're expecting.

Here's a photo of an Olds engine compartment I stole off the web, and the arrow points to the transmission dipstick. It is a bit low.

One more photo. This is of a 455 in a '73 Custom Cruiser. The arrow points to the dipstick.

Crawl under the passenger side of the car and find the tube in the transmission, then follow it up to find the stick.

Found it! Just couldn’t get my big head in there to look lol!

thanks so much everyone. About to go cruise and spend some time with my dad, and listen to some of his favorites.

Been waiting on this.

Enjoy the memories, he’s still with you in spirit. And let’s see more photos, a big block CS is a thing of beauty.
