Correct shifter cane for 68 442?

The current shifter I have is bent and has just hurst embossed on it. What should the original look like and what shifter ball is on it? I see some with a H and 442 on them advertised as correct. Mine does have a floor counsel. Thanks matt

Should have 442 on it and a plain black ball with a console. Should have a curve. What are you referring to as bent?

Well I know of the curve but the one one mine now has a curve to the right and the normal curve back. My counsel does not fit on it either.

1966-1969 Hurst shifter bar should have 442 and "H". Would have round shoulder on ball thread. Should be marked part number 3760. Your description of current shifter stick sounds like 70 to 72. Part number 7169 is for bucket seat and console. #7305 is for bench seat no console. I got this information from a book " Good Old Days Olds 64-72 A-Bodies" by Mike Siedlek page 59 & 60. My scanner is down so I can't copy it. Hope this helps.

Like Wayne said it should have both an "H" & 442 on it. It obviously does curve back towards the driver but there are no "bends" left or right. It's a "flat stick" unlike the ones for '70-72' that have bends in them. I painted the H & numerals on mine just for a bit of color & like others said it's supposed to have a plain black ball form the factory with a console. Non console cars had the black ball with the shift pattern. White ones were never offered from the factory but everyone uses them 'cause they look better. I'm using a vintage white Hurst t-handle on mine these days.

Thanks guys yup it seems mine is a 70 to 72 version will check numbers in a bit. Wonder then if the shift gat is later to?
I know the trans is dated to the car.
I bought a cane and ball as you guys mentioned for about 140 and they are own good shape. Paid to much?
I’ll pull my old one verify numbers and sell accordingly, by the way that looks totally awesome painting the numbers and letters.

Well I take that 70-72 thing back. Pulled the boot and looked and yes cane is not original but it seems that the jog to the right is from some weird bracket on this shift gate. Seriously think this is a bubba job. Matt

The shifter in the picture above is not a "Bubba"...

Its a 1968-72 Chevelle after market shifter you would buy from a speed shop...

If you check the base of the bolt on stick it should be number 8009...

Hope this helps... Crash

I don't know how soon you're looking for one but I have the correct 68 442 shifter (actually used late 66 to 69). It's in my car now but I'm going to be switching it out in the next month or so for a nicer one that I have.

I bought a shifter set up but if yours is ok and date coded closer to my build date I’d be interested sir.

Well from what I have learned is that my car was made 4th week of April 68. 04D
And from my question as to parts dates for as pacific time from most parts should be 2 weeks before April 20th but it earlier than say March 68? That’s what I understand.
What would a date code of 9 7E2 mean? Matt

Yup I think mine is not early enough but we’ll see. Here is the one plate that is on the car with the chevelle shifter and linkage. The 442 shifter I did not have plates or linkage with it.Ill send picks of both this afternoon.
