79 cutlass shifting too early, correct throttle cable bracket needed

So my newest edition to the family is a79 cutlass with the 260 v8. The only real issue Im having is that the original TV cable bracket is missing an a makeshift universal one is in its place. The car is shifting from 1st to 2nd at around 10-15 and from 2nd to 3rd at around 25 but stays inbetween gears for a few seconds durring shift from 2nd to 3rd. Pressing the gas harder prolongs the time it takes inbetween gears. Im assuming this is caused by the wrong cable bracket? Help is greatly appreciated!

You need to make sure you are getting full TV pull at full throttle. Do it before you destroy the trans.

What transmission is in your car. If its a T350, that is not a TV cable, it is a kickdown, and should be fully engaged at WOT. The shift points are controlled mostly by the governor and minutely by the modulator. The modulator, if adjustable, will move the shift point up or down a few mph.

More than likely a TH200, hopefully it wasn't drove far without a proper bracket.
