55 Olds hydramatic service/rebuild

I have a 1955 Olds 98 with a hydramatic transmission. The vehicle has not been run since 1969. The 324 motor is finished but I want to have someone go through the hydramatic transmission before I put them back in the vehicle. Can anyone give me some suggestions for a fair and reputable shop familiar with this transmission? Any help will be appreciated

Thanks Oral.

Where are you located? I had the hydra-matic in my 54 rebuilt about 4 or 5 years ago. My car actually has a 55 engine and transmission in it. The rear of the transmission is a little different than a 54. I doubt you will find a shop that actually rebuilds them. They have not been used for many years and there are few people around that know anything about them. I found a retired guy in his late 70's that does them at his home shop. We made arrangement for somebody else to pull it and reinstall it. I am in the DFW, Texas area.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have contact info on the man that did your transmission?

I had mine done at Transmatic in Chico Ca. good work but Mack who was the owner has been retired for a while. As a side note he took his manager aside and had him work with him on my transmission just to give him experience. If I had another slant pan I would go there again..... Tedd... PS they have a web site.

I just followed up and unfortunately my guy passed away about 4 months ago. He was a great guy and really know all the old transmissions. This is one of the reasons I went ahead and had mine rebuilt. If you can't find somebody locally the freight on one of these things is substantial.

I got a referral to a shop in Fort Worth that has rebuilt several hydra-matics. It is:

Clint's Transmissions
Phone (817) 625-4851
Website https://www.clintstransmissions.com/

I have not talked to them. If you have any feedback I would appreciate sharing it.
