Question Where's my bell housing?

O.k., stupid question.... I do not have a bell housing on my 1972 Cutlass 455. The fly wheel/torque converter are all out in the open. Is that normal? Did someone just take it off and not put it back on? And if its not on there, should it be? HELP I'm scared!!

If nobody answers before me, I think the cover is missing on the bottom.

Allan

To be more specific the flywheel, clutch, or converter housing cover.
I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction and more than a few big buck cars had them missing too.

Yeah, sounds like your inspection plate is missing.

All you are missing is a tin plate that is called a dust shield. The housing is cast as a single unit with the body of the trans. I'm not sure but would assume any dust shield off an Olds of similar vintage will bolt up in place. But all in all it probably isn't necessary. I have had countless cars over the years that have not had them on without a problem. Keep in mind I used to run A LOT of beaters.

Based on your information You do not have a transmission all you have is the flywheel and torque convertor. In order to have a Bell housing you would have a stick transmission with a flywheel, clutch plate, and a pressure plate
