What is now Type A Trans Fluid?

I am just starting to drive my 62 Starfire after a complete restoration. It has been sitting 5 years. The trans and engine were supposedly rebuilt by the PO. I know the engine was. I hope the trans was. It slips in first gear, shifts OK into second, but does not always seem like it is shifting into third gear. Aside from sitting a long time, I am wondering if it has the right fluid in it? The manual says Type A. What is the modern equivalent? I have been adding DexMerc to keep the level correct on the dipstick.

Type A is Dexron.

"The original Dexron oil became Dexron II, which developed into Dexron IIE in the early 1990's. Dexron IIE used extra additives that helped clean computer-controlled shift solenoids and pressure control solenoids inside the transmission. After only a short time, Dexron IIE became Dexron III, which is still the current Dexron designation."

I checked out the DexMerc site and it looks like the right stuff.
