what kind of 4 speed?
Easily or practically, none. The standard shift bellhousing for a 55 will not accept a Muncie or Borg Warner 4-speed. You might try call Tony at Ross Automotive and see what he says. If anybody would have the know how it would be Tony. However, before somebody points it out to me, most 55's came with 4-speeds. Of course they were hydramatics.

I don't know of anybody that makes a bolt in shifter for your car. Years ago you might have been able to buy one of those universal kits and make it work. Hurst will be about you only possibility. They have 3 speed shifter called the Master Shifter. You might be able to take one and modify it to work. You can't beat Hurst quality. Here is a link to their website. I would give them a call.

There is a very lengthy and detailed thread on the first gen Olds V8 engines over on H.A.M.B. Scroll about halfway down the first page for photos of various factory and aftermarket bellhousings and adapters.
Bendtsen's sells a complete manual trans adapter kit for early Olds V8s for $1500.
