How do I tell what type automatic transmission is in my wife's 1978 Olds Delta 88 Royale?

 

Look under the car.

 

Joking. There is a pan diagram somewhere around here or on the internet. I think your trans is either a turbo 350 or 400. Look at the pan diagram and determine by looking at yourtrans which one you have. Pretty simple.

 

Thanks, I've got the maintenance manual for the car so it should have the diagram in it, and you're right, that was a vague question and I was just going to clarify it.
