Transmission

I'm looking at getting a 68 delta 88 with a 455 but it has a bad transmission and I've been trying to find out if it came with the th350 or th400. The current owner doesn't know twhat it has. Do y'all have any idea which one it has? All I know is it's an automatic.

If it's the original transmission, it's a TH400.

More specifically, it's a long tail TH400. FYI, the TH350 didn't exist in 1968. It was first released in the middle of the 1969 model year.

I thought some GM divisions got the TH350 toward the end of the '68 model year.

The TH350 was released mid-way through the 1969 model year for Oldsmobile. I have no idea what other divisions may have done, but this is the first I've ever heard of a TH350 prior to mid-1969. More to the point, the OP is asking about an Olds.

I know ... I was just curious.

EDIT: So curious, in fact, that I looked it up on my Google machine, on which several sources confirmed Joe's assertion that no TH350s were available from Oldsmobile (or any other GM division) prior to the 1969 model year. Don't know where I got that stubborn bit of misinformation.
