trans temp sensor.

So im putting in a cooler and im going to add a gauge to the trans lines to monitor heat as i got a much higher stall converter. Im assuming water temo gauges are the same as oil , trans, water basic probe to detect the range of heat. I know the h20 temp has a deeper probe but is much cheaper and i could make it work. I gues my main question is will the water temp gauge work ?
