A torque converter is the single most important item you can buy. A custom built unit is worth the extra $$$ it takes to take the guess work out of the equation. The guys @ PTC are one of the best in the business. They are in Alabama and I know of a lot of racers who use their's and swear by them.
Call a converter builder, get something custom made for your application. The more info you can provide about your build, the better. Things like weight, engine/trans/rearend gear, etc. A custom converter is well worth the small increase in price. Coan, Hughes, Precision, ATI, all are companies I have personally dealt with and can recommend

Yes! PTC is superior to Hughes.
I think you will be happy between 2200-2400, The TCI Break Away. Buy the clear TCI synthetic fluid as well.

Another Vote for PTC. They are top notch and when I worked at the racing parts store PTC was our go-to for custom converters for real fast cars.
I had two custom PTC converters for weird applications and they did AWESOME.
Kenny Ford is the man to talk to, but, honestly, any of their folks are very good to deal with.
Also, if you want to change the stall speed later or have it adjusted or upgraded in some way, PTC will do that for you.
