TKO600 for 455

Can our cranks be modified to accept a modern transmission like a TKO600 or T56? Lots of cool offerings out there these days for Chevys. Can we keep up with the times?

What needs to be done to the crank to accept input shaft?

If the crank already has a shaft bushing, it should be as easy as a Chevy swap. Here, a how-to article doesen't want anybody in Europe doing likewise:

If the crank is a manual transmission crank, then nothing needs done to it. If it’s an automatic transmission crank, it needs to be drilled for the pilot bearing.

If you’ve got the manual transmission crank, or are already doing work on an automatic transmission crank, that is probably the easiest part of the swap. If you have an automatic crank and don’t plan to remove it from the car, it becomes a big deal.

I am swapping from an automatic to Tremec Magnum. My crank was already being pulled for a rebuild so it was no big deal to machine the end.

I have several extra cranks, none of them are drilled for a manual. What tooling is needed and what dimensions are required for the hole needing to be made?

Lightbulb New Tremec TKX

I have been looking at the new Tremec TKX for my 64 F85. It is supposed to fit A Bodies with no tunnel mods needed..

This transmission is an all new smaller case and designed to handle up to 600 Tq and 500 HP with shifting up to 7500 RPM.

Two models, wide ratio and close ratio.

There are some videos on YouTube with pretty indepth discussions on this tranny.

The TKO trans fits behind the Olds no problem however, yes, the trans tunnel needs to be cut to accept the wider body of the TKO. I did it on my '77. Won't be able to tell once you get the carpet in so doesn't matter much. You're obviously not keeping the car stock so, speaking practically, does it matter if you have to cut the floor?

The tremec TKX is like, twice the price of the TKO isn't it?

Tremec

Nope, the TKO is $2595 and the TKX is $2795.. Trans only..

No cutting with the TKX (supposedly)
