TH400 linkage leak

Hello my TH 400 is leaking around the shift linkage. What do I have to do to fix that? Is there a seal in there? And how much of a job is it to fix? I.e do I have to pull the tranny out? Thanks

I'm pretty sure the seal is installed from the inside of trans. It can be done in the car by dropping the pan and removing the valve body.

Ok thanks i guess I should have done that when I had it apart. Figures. Any idea where I could get that seal? Thanks for your reply

Available at any auto parts store. I like Napa, the quality of their parts
seems for me at least, better than the others. Any trans shop should have them as well. It's not a hard job, just a pita. I have successfully popped them out
in the past from the outside, but then again, you have to be careful to not gouge the shaft or aluminum housing. Pita, but better than dropping the pan.
Good luck with it.

Very simple job to do w/o dropping the pan if you have the right tool. You can buy one on ebay for 20.00 or so. That's probably less than the cost of a pan gasket, fluid, not to mention the mess + time. Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transmission...8dd8bd&vxp=mtr

The seal is installed from the OUTSIDE of the trans and can be replaced without pulling the shifter shaft if you have the correct tool. Alternately, you can drop the pan, remove the shifter shaft, and R&R the seal without the special tool if it's time to change the trans fluid and filter anyway.
