TH400 Kickdown Assembly

Hi Folks

My Cutlass came to me with a TH400, but I noticed there was no kickdown assembly, although the wiring was there for it. Somehow I believe the car (originally a 350CID) but now a 455 came with a Turbo 350 Tranny, but I am not sure.

I got a bracket, but now am having difficulty installing it.

Please see pics.

I am thinking I need to remove the tab indicated in pic-2.

as it seems to be interfering with the switch as shown in pic-3

Lastly, I am wondering if I move the cable to the other opening on the pedal, do I need to have the throttle cable come through the hole in pic-4?

THank you for any insight.

TP

Tim: not sure what car you have but for 1970 the TH400 uses the kickdown switch only. It does not use a cable. The throttle lever is different for the TH400.

I would not move the throttle cable. If you get the correct lever all should work stock.

Did the car come with different gas pedals. I have the proper kickdown switch and kickdown bracket. It's the gas pedal that's the problem. Were you able to see the pics?

Your car was originally equipped with a TH350 and yes, you have the TH350 accelerator. You need to remove that tacked-on tab from the accelerator. The accelerator cable shouldn't change where it comes through the firewall - it's the upper of the two square holes.

I'm thinking because a Turbo 350 had the kickdown assembly, the other hole on the gas pedal was 4 the kickdown cable

That's what I was thinking Joe. In that case where would the accelerator cable attatch. Currently it's attached to that tab I'm going to remove

The accelerator cable always uses the upper hole in both the firewall and the pedal. On TH350 cars the kickdown cable uses the lower hole in both the firewall and the pedal.
