TH350 Problems

My 67 started acting up this week, it does not down shift when stopped or slowing down. I can manually shift into first and it will go through gears on it's own. I was just under the car and was going to pull governor and see if it was stuck or if gear was shot but I am not sure there will be enough room to pull it. I have never removed one but I know I need to tap a driver under the edge to release the cover and then pull it straight out. In my car it is sitting center above the cross member and there is only about 3" of space between cap and where floorboard dips down. Is that enough room to slide it out? Also looks like it could be a PITA to get cover back on trying to tap edges of cover down with no room to work. Thanks for any help

Can you remove the xmember and lower the rear of the trans and support it with a jack or something? Check your modulator and hose also, make sure you have good manifold vacuum on the line.

I actually moved the line from ported to manifold when I changed my carb a couple of weeks ago. The metal line PO installed runs all the way up near front of motor so I used about 1 1/2' of rubber vacuum hose. I did plan on cutting metal line back to use shorter hose but did not think vacuum would be my current problem. Doesn't the modulator just control the upshift?

It controls both, and it needs manifold vacuum. When I was younger, I inadvertently hooked mine to ported and when it finally did downshift it bang like someone ran into the back of the car.

Dude you are fast Is it ok to have that much rubber line? I assume best way to check vacuum would be to pull hose at modulator and feel for steady vacuum.

I don't think it will hurt as long as its not collapsing. You can also hook up a vacuum gage down at the modulator end.

Ok back out to the driveway with crossed fingers, would be nice if it is just a vacuum problem. Eric thanks for everything you do here, I know I do not post often but I am on here everyday reading and appreciate all the great info and the time you and others take to help people like myself.

I have had the metal line plug up. The modulator could be bad too. If its bad replace it with an adjustable TM-50. The gov can be removed in situ.

I had this happen to me last summer. Made the mistake of hooking it up to ported vacuum on carb on accident. Ported and manifold ports were rate next to each other. I made it a couple blocks and realized something wasn't rite. Hopefully that's all it is for you.
