I've been searching previous TH 400 related posts trying to find info on my latest quest for Olds knowledge.
On my VC, the ID tag reads: OA-67 3596, it's mated to a 4Bbl 330. I believe they're original to the '67 VC but haven't figured out what the 'series' is listed in the CSM. OA-67 3596
There are 3 sets of numbers listed; 3465, 3855, 3865. What does that pertain to?
My other question pertains to getting a new OA stencil / decal to go on the plate.
Does anyone reproduce them?

I'm having almost as much enjoyment working on it as compared to driving it (mental therapy).

That trans is not a TH400. It is a TH375, which is the low-strength version of the TH400. It uses reduced clutch counts and the smaller Jetaway-sized output shaft. The TH375 was only built in the long tail version and was used behind small blocks in heavy, long wheelbase cars like the VC and the Delmont 88. Look at the bottom of the tailhousing. It will say 375 THM.
The shorter wheelbase flattop wagons used the Jetaway until the TH350 was released in mid-1969. The long-wheelbase Vista was heavier. It used a long-tail HD Jetaway in 1964-66. The TH375 was used starting in 1967 for small block Vistas.

I looked under the tailshaft housing, no indication of a TH 375 (see photos). I did see a date code (66).
When I ordered a tailshaft bushing and seal for a TH 400 and it was identical to the old ones.
You know a lot more than me, I just ***-umed it was a 400 and got lucky with the parts?

The tail shaft demonstrates what appears to be 8623734. I suppose the only way to be definitive is to validate the spline count? TH375 typically was 27 spine while TH400 typically was 32 spline, I believe? Post #3 from Hairy Olds doesn't show that tail shaft #, although many discussions in several forums demonstrate 8623734 as having belonged to a TH400. Not an area I have much knowledge.
It's 32 splines. So at this point I'm guessing it's a 400.
For my application a 375 would have been just fine, as long as it works and nothing leaks.

If the TH400 output bushing and seal fit, it is a TH400. The TH375 uses the smaller TH350-sized bushing and seal. I wonder if it's an original trans or not. Unfortunately, 8623734 is the casting number for the tail housing. That won't show up in the parts book or PIM. The part number will be different because it would be the assembly that included the bushing and seal.
