TH 400 Leak

So overnight my Cutlass' tranny decided to start leaking much more. I think I've found the new leak. I don't really know what this part is, it's towards the back of the tranny across from where the speedo cable goes in. Anyways appears to be seeping out of a bolt. It leaks a good puddle or so over a few hours. What's the diagnosis on this and is it possible to fix without dropping the tranny? Also it appears tranny is leaking motor oil or something out of the inspection cover, any ideas on that?

Went ahead and bought a new gasket for the governor, hopefully that fixes it. Anyone have any ideas on the motor oil leak?

Sounds like you have a rear main engine seal leak if the oil is coming from the trans inspection cover. Not an easy fix.

As Eric said, most likely a rear main seal... The only other area possible would be the rear cam plug, which isn't common, but is possible...

Well looks like I might just let it leak then. If its the rear main that sounds like it may be a bit above my pay grade.

Ok I had one more question. I am using Synthetic Oil. Would for any reason this make a seal leak. The car had non synthetic in it before and never leaked. Changed oil a few months ago and it might have been leaking ever sense.

EDIT: nvm answered this myself. Will be switching back to conventional oil this weekend, hopefully the leak stops or will most likely be pulling the engine.
