I will be replacing my transmission coolant lines on my 56 Olds. Do you guys / gals use teflon tape on the fittings?

At the radiator yes, at the transmission no the lines are flared where they connect to the flexible line

 

Thanks Citcapp - What is your opinion of going to the flexible braided lines instead of the steel tubing?

 

seeing as how I know hard lines don't fail and have lasted 55 years + in a stock 56 old I would stick with them. Braided likes still have rubber or other material in them that can fail. Besides I am cheap and bend my own lines with a $10.00 hand bender

I think I'd stay away from teflon tape here. If even a tiny piece of the stuff breaks off and gets into the transmission, it can wreak havoc as it could plug a passage or get stuck in the valve body.

 

There is a liquid Teflon tape.

 

Rocket raider is correct on this, my bad. I checked it out the fittings going into the radiator are flared as well don't need anything there either
