T-56 6-speed will it bolt up??
T-56 6-speed will it bolt up??
Will a GM T-56 or TKO 6 speed bolt up to a Rocket 350 in a 1970 Olds Cutlass S ???
Trying to upgrade to an OD trans, and I want to buy all the pedals, and
parts to do it, but I want to know if this is going to bolt up or if I'm S.O.L.

TKO, yes, IF you get the properly-configured aftermarket trans and appropriate custom aftermarket bellhousing.
If you're looking for a cheap swap with junkyard parts, sorry. The factory T56 has an integral Chevy bellhousing and the wrong length input shaft.
I don't know the specifics of it and if they used an LT1 or LS1 versionT56 but I have seen it done several times times with BOP applications. I think Mcload makes the belhousing to do it.
I used the TKO600 5 speed in my car with stock 4 speed linkage and a Lakewood BOP bellhousing that came from a Firebird. If you use the Lakewood you will need to trim the side of the bellhousing to run mechanical clutch linkage.

I'm reviving this thread because I found a T56 I want to purchase, but I know it's not a very
common thing because I think I'm one of the VERY VERY few that's inquired about it on this forum.
I thought the T56's would work as long as you swapped the bellhousing with a BOP one. Last I saw, they are removable.
Mcleod also make adaptors I've seen as well.

What 4 speeds were bolted up to a 1970 Rocket 350??
I'm looking to find out what 4 speed options there were
attached to the 1970 Rocket 350. I'm going to be on the
lookout for a factory bellhousing in good condition ASAP.
If anyone has any ideas, please post up the info.
Thanks.

What is it out of? If its a LS1 trans you should be able to use this.

It's out of a Trans Am with the LS1.
I have a bead on a Mcleod universal bell housing for BOP applications right now.
I think it's the same model # you just posted.
Found it NEW for $269 with some visual scrapes....but no dents or anything from Mcleod.
It just didn't pass inspection for perfection.
Going that route , hoping it works.

I believe the transmission tunnel has to be cut out and raised to fit the T-56 on '68-72 A-bodies... Haven't seen this, but heard it multiple times. You may want to investigate further.
BTW, the T-56 is a great tranny (I've had them in cars for the last 14 years). You'll love it when you get it in there.

Even tho this is a 67 GTO bodystyle, the install is practically the same.

THis is the ONLY part I'm worried about with my Rocket 350 NOT having
a pilot bearing area cut out of the crank. My engine was rebuilt, but I have
no idea if the same crank was used, or aftermarket.

Here’s what you really want to see at this point at the back of your crankshaft. This crank is drilled for a pilot bearing, as seen in the middle groove with the scored ridge. Not all Pontiac (or other make) crankshafts are drilled for a pilot bushing/bearing. If your crank isn’t cut a custom made bushing or drilling of the crank will be required to install any manual trans.
Where did you get the adaptor bearing from??
True, there are guys that just cut out the shifter part, but
in all reality the install goes 10x easier if you cut the big hump out of the way so you can work on it from INSIDE the car. So says the guy who started that thread anyways. I've seen alot of Chevelle guys that did it the same way with 68-72 bodies.....so I think I'm going that route as well.
Welding isn't hard , so I hear......never done it myself, I'll outsource that part. Can't be too much $$
You may not have to cut that much floor. 64-67 floor is way different form 68-72 floor.
