Speedo cable leak at T/M case

The shop where all my work is performed has installed a freshly rebuilt 700R4 O/D T/M (along with 4 wheel disc conversion, etc.). There is a minute leak where the speedo cable goes into the T/M housing. O ring replaced, but still leaking. Tech says it is a normal problem with '68-72 drive trains. Whole housing must be replaced, and is an expensive "fix" ($150 or so), and will probably leak again in a short while. Any one have any experience with this problem and/or know of a "fix" that might be a bit cheaper, and will work???

Tony: Both o rings replaced. The houseing where you can change the plastic large/small gearing to compensate for different rear -ends to change speedo readings (I think). You know me and being able to work on these things.............LOL!
